Ford Mustang Mach-E GT First Quarter-Mile Time Is Here

Now we’ll see if the Mustang Mach-E GT lives up to expectations in terms of performance.

Early adopters are finding out if the high-performance electric SUV lives up to expectations now that delivery of the range-topping Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition has begun.

On the Mach E forum, one owner received their Mach-E GT Performance Edition a few weeks early and wasted no time in putting it through its paces at their local drag strip.

As a reminder, the GT Performance Edition’s two electric motors provide 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque, which is a significant improvement over the Premium AWD model’s 346 hp.

On the drag strip, electric vehicles have the advantage of quick torque, which often leads to spectacular quarter-mile performances, as we recently saw with the Model S Plaid, which set a new record of 9.24 seconds.

A forum user posted their time slip online after doing what must be the first impartial quarter-mile test in the GT Performance Edition.

It says that the GT Performance Edition ran the quarter-mile in 12.657 seconds at 100.02 mph, which is excellent for a huge SUV.

The time from 0 to 60 mph was 3.89 seconds without the 1ft rollout, though the forum user claims they were able to reduce it to 3.78 seconds on the road. This is somewhat slower than Ford’s official 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds for the GT Performance E.

The GT Performance Edition, on the other hand, was not put in Unbridled Extend mode, which is effectively a track mode.

There was also a 70 percent charge on the battery and relatively high tire pressure, so there was definitely potential for improvement. With Unbridled Extend mode disabled, the top speed “appears to be regulated with little acceleration over 100 mph.”

The car’s owner vows to make some tweaks and return to the drag strip to see if the time can be bettered, but early signs suggest the GT Performance Edition is a lightning-fast electric SUV that lives up to the Mustang moniker.

The added performance comes at a price, of course: the GT Performance Edition starts at $64,900, while the entry-level Select costs $42,895.
